Johannesburg Children's Home
The Johannesburg Children's Home is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 001-034) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 18/11/13/1111) which provides a safe refuge for 64 children of all races who have been found in need of care by the Children's Court.
Aged from 3 to 18 years, our children have suffered physical, sexual or emotional abuse, severe neglect or abandonment. Some are Aids orphans and/or are HIV positive. At JCH they start a new life, living in cottages of up to ten children under the loving eyes of trained Child Care Workers.
Steps to Independence
We also have a Halfway House for older children, where they can live independently, yet safely, until they are ready to take that final step into the big, wide world. Before moving to the Halfway House, children aged between 14 and 16 spend time in our Stepping Stones Cottage, which begins the process of learning to become self-sufficient.
Although we receive a State subsidy for each child, it covers only about 11% of actual costs. If not for the generosity of the people of Johannesburg and further afield, we could not do the work we do.
